2025 - Patras Rangoli Mural, Gibsons, BC
By Michelle Neilson, Satwant Tatla, & Albina Polishchuk
Inspired by the Indian tradition of rangoli, this mural celebrates the beauty of community, culture, and connection. It was created with the help of Albina, who came to Canada with her parents from Ukraine in 2023, and Satwant, who arrived from India in 2020 and now calls Gibsons home.
In Hindu tradition, rangoli is drawn during festivals like Diwali and at weddings to invite prosperity, ward off negativity, and welcome the Goddess Lakshmi. Its intricate patterns, symbolizing happiness and renewal, echo the designs found in Ukrainian egg decorating—remind us of the universal language of art and how it can bring people together and build community.
At a time when the world needs more light, this mural stands as a testament to the value of fostering community connections and the beauty of shared traditions.
2025 - WHY I LOVE GIBSONS, Gibsons, BC
The "WHY I LOVE GIBSONS" mural is a community art installation along the Gibsons’ waterfront.
Featuring three panels, the mural includes a chalkboard section where passersby are invited to share their own reasons for loving Gibsons. Installed on the fence of an empty lot, it not only invites personal expression but also adds a splash of creativity and charm to the waterfront landscape.
