Michelle Neilson

Michelle’s artistic journey began in the late 1980s at the University of Alberta, where she studied Fine Arts. While primarily focusing on painting and sculpture, she also contributed a regular cartoon strip to the university newspaper. This passion for visual storytelling continued while living in Montreal, where she also contributed to the Concordia student newspaper. Years later, after studying business at Simon Fraser University, Michelle co-founded a Canadian natural food company. In 2023, she sold the business, which set the stage for a return to her creative roots.

Today, Michelle works from her home studio in Gibsons, BC and is creating a series of acrylic paintings on wood. Drawing inspiration from Joan Miro, Picasso and Banksy, she explores themes of the mundane, the absurd and the human condition.
